Rural Education outreach program
Access to prevention education and safety resources for all…
At Safe Start we are driven by current infant and child injury data and trends. Our operational structure that includes nationally recognized experts in their field along with an active, dedicated, and supportive board of directors. An incredible team of trained volunteers throughout the region perfectly position allow us to respond quickly and better serve the children and families that our data shows are in desperate need of our services.
This was the genesis of our Rural Education Outreach (REO) program. After realizing children born into rural communities are five times as likely to be killed in a car crash, more than six times as likely to be using incorrect child restraints (or no child restrains at all )and child passenger safety misuse rates in rural communities is as high as 91%, we knew that we had to take action.
We spent the next year and a half researching, planning, and developing our REO program. Launched in the Summer of 2023, our REO program is designed to allow us to travel to rural communities throughout Idaho, Washington, and Montana providing our entire slate of child passenger and infant sleep safety prevention education classes in addition to sharing our child safety resources.
By traveling to rural communities and serving our region’s families in their hometown, we are working to remove as many barriers as possible to obtaining the lifesaving services we provide. Because of our new REO program, no child in our service area will have to go without a safe space to sleep in or a safe seat to ride in.
Our Rural Education Outreach (REO) Program is designed to provide access to our life-saving prevention education and safety resources to families living in historically underserved communities.
